The XVIII Congress of individual members of the SDPK (Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan), where delegates from all regions of the country gathered, was held at Abdimomunov Kyrgyz Drama Theater in Bishkek on Wednesday.
Following the congress, it was unanimously decided on depriving Almazbek Atambayev of his authority to be the leader of the party; moreover, instead of Atambayev, Sagynbek Abdyrakhmanov was elected Chairman of the SDPK without Atambayev movement.
In addition to changing the party leader, individual members of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan made changes and additions to the party’s charter.
The reason for the impeachment process involving former president Almazbek Atambayev and depriving him of his right to be the party’s leader was marked by Atambayev’s involvement in corruption cases, political persecution and repression of his opponents during his presidency.
