Oman announces official results of consultative assembly elections
MUSCAT, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 86 candidates, including two women, won the seats of the Shura Council, a consultative assembly in Oman, for four years (2020-2023), a committee said at a press conference on Monday.
The main committee overseeing the elections announced the approved official electoral results, after the automatic counting and auditing.
During the conference, Khalifa Al Hadrami, head of the Higher Commission for Elections, said that the turnout of voters witnessed a remarkable increase.
According to a press release issued by the commission, the elections witnessed a balance in the composition of the new members, including many acquired higher academic qualifications.
Omani voters flocked to the polling stations on Sunday. The number of registered voters reached 713,335, up from 611,907 in the election of 2015.
