General features
The Bosnian electoral system is particularly complex due to the high number of elective institutions with their own electoral regulations and requirements. The presidency is a collective head of state made up of three members, one from each constituent people; each is elected by their population using the first past the post (FPTP) system. The legislative body of the state is made up of two chambers, a House of Peoples which has its members indirectly elected, while the House of Representatives is directly elected using a proportional system, the same system used in the election of the legislative bodies of the Republika Sprska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The term of office for every position is four years. The body in charge of the electoral preparation and management is the Central Electoral Commission. Voting from abroad is allowed.
