KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Umno will be more open, democratic and inclusive in the party's Supreme Council (MT) election in October.
Najib, who is also Umno president, said this was because the election will be carried out based on the new party constitution.
"Election of Umno Supreme Council members is based on the new constitution and hopefully it will lead Umno to become more open, democratic and inclusive," he said in his Facebook here Saturday.
At the MT meeting yesterday, Najib announced that Umno MT elections will be held simultaneously with the division delegates meetings on October 5.
The amended Umno constitution was approved in 2009 which among others increased the total number of delegates eligible to vote in the party's highest positions and posts in the division level apart from doing away with the quota system in the party's election.
More than 150,000 Umno delegates from 191 divisions nationwide will vote for the party's leadership this year compared to only 2,500 earlier.
Meanwhile, elections for the Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings will held separately on Sept 28 and the party annual general assembly will be held from December 2 to 7.
