KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Wanita Umno has unanimously agreed to be the bastion for the top two posts in the party to ensure that they remain unchallenged.
Its chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said the movement would back Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to retain the president and deputy president's posts uncontested in the party's election in September.
"This was decided at the Wanita Umno executive council meeting which I chaired yesterday. We've make a unanimous decision where Wanita Umno will be the fortress to defend the president and deputy president if there are contenders.
"The top two posts should not be contested, but for the vice-president's posts, it is up to anybody who feels like joining the fray," she added.
Asked whether she is prepared to defend her post, Shahrizat said she would not stop anybody from challenging her.
She said as the amendment to the party's constitution allowed anyone to run for any office, "I welcome anyone who wants to challenge me."
"The contest this time around will be more interesting and challenging as even grassroots members can vote," she added.
