KAJANG: PKR has lodged a police report on campaigning materials that have been distributed to the constituents, which they claimed were libellous to the party leaders.

The materials contained alleged confessions of former PKR members concerning party supremo Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Selangor information chief Shuhaimi Shafiei.

There were also leaflets containing criticism of the Election Commission by opposition leaders.

“The materials were found to be anonymous, as they did not state any publication and printing details.

"This is clearly against the Election Offences Act 1954 Section 11 (1) (C),” he said, after lodging the police report at Kajang district police headquarters here Friday.

Shuhaimi, who is also Sri Muda assemblyman, claimed that the materials were discovered at four voting districts; Saujana Impian, Sg Chua, Sg Sekamat and Sg Kantan on Thursday night.

“I have also discovered some illegal newsletters and comic books today at around 2pm at Kg Sg Sekamat mosque.

“I was told the similar materials are now being widely distributed at mosques,” he claimed.

“I hope the EC takes a stern stand on this as distributing libellous material to voters is against the law.

Earlier at a press conference, Selangor deputy information chief Khalid Jaafar, said that the party had prepared a rebuttal statement against a list of reasons on why voters should reject Dr Wan Azizah.

The list, he said, was being shared widely on the social media.

“Although some say it is frivolous and petty, we still need to speak up as it is belittling Dr Wan Azizah as our candidate,” he said.

Election Offences Act 1954, Section 11 (1) (C) states that any person behind election material which does not bear upon its face the names and addresses of its printer and publisher is subject to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year and to a fine not exceeding RM2000.
