KAJANG: Police have detained a man over incidents during balloting in Sunday's by-election.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the man was detained for trying to obstruct police from dismantling a tent at the Jalan Taman Delima junction here.

The 43-year-old man was said to have scolded a policeman by using vulgar words and preventing police from bringing down the tent as ordered by the Election Commission (EC).

Mohd Shukri said police also opened an investigation paper into a claim by a 27-year-old man who was assaulted by a group of unknown men at 3pm at SK Kajang.

He said the overall balloting process was peaceful despite several incidents of misunderstandings and provocations between members of political parties.

"But, police were able to disperse them and defused the situation," he added.
