Iran's Majlis plans to discuss the recent resolution by the European Parliament (EP) about the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic.
The National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Majlis will examine the issue at its first session in the Persian New Year and adopt the required decisions, said committee spokesman Seyyed Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini on Friday.
“Since the anti-Iran resolution constitutes blatant interference in the internal affairs and even the most detailed issues of the country, it should be seriously considered by the [country’s] diplomatic apparatus,” he added.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry must summon the ambassadors of the countries involved in engineering the resolution and seriously remind them of the issue, the lawmaker noted.
On Thursday, the European Parliament passed a resolution on the EU’s strategy toward Iran.
In the motion, the EP expressed concern over the alleged violation of human rights in Iran.
It also claimed that Iran’s presidential election in June 2013, which led to the victory of Hassan Rouhani, was “not held according to the democratic standards valued by the EU.”
Iran has dismissed the resolution as unrealistic and counterproductive at a time when the Islamic Republic and the European Union have taken initial steps to resolve issues germane to mutual relations.
