  • Observations: Despite its claims to represent all Algerians, the RCD is very much a party of the Kabyle minority. Though a member of a coalition government from 1999 to 2001 (when it quit in protest of the government's handling of the Kabyle crisis) it has defined itself as an opposition party. Thanks to several outspoken and media-savvy members (notably, long-time leader Said Sadi) the RCD has appeared over the years (notably in international media) to be much more important than its electoral strength would suggest.
  • The party boycotted the 2012 ANP elections, thereby remaining outside of the lower house of parliament. It did however, participate in the 2012 local elections.
