Morocco Election Postponed To Next September

The head of government, Abdelilah Benkirane, announced Tuesday in Rabat, the postponement of the election date to the month of September, ” in response to the request of the political parties.”

Mr. Benkirane, who spoke at the monthly meeting devoted to issues of general policy of the Government at the House of Representatives on elections, said he was informed by the Minister of the Interior, Mohamed Assad that “Most political parties, with the exception of two formations have requested a postponement of the elections (…). We have acceded to the request of the political parties.”

The head of government announced at a monthly meeting on the general policy of the government, held the past year by the House of Representatives that the overall schedule the next elections will begin in May 2015 with the election of the representatives of employees, followed by municipal and regional ones to be held in June 2015, those of the professional chambers (July 2015), recommendations prefectures and provinces (August 2015), while the election of the House of Councilors were to be held in September 2015.

In this regard, Mr. Benkirane said that preparations for these elections take place in good conditions and all laws governing the elections will be adopted on time.

Regarding the revision of electoral rolls, the head of government said that the necessary technical and organizational measures have been taken to achieve this.

A total of 800,000 applications were submitted until last Saturday, including 218,000 were made via electronic site, he noted.
