The Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union emphasized the right of Iran and other Muslim countries to peaceful use of nuclear technology in a statement issued at the end of its two-day meeting in Khartoum on Tuesday.

The members also condemned the assassination of nuclear scientists of Muslims countries, the Persian service of IRNA reported.

In addition, leaders of the member states emphasized the necessity of the establishment of a Middle East zone free of weapons of mass destruction.

A number of other issues related to the Muslim world were also mentioned in the final statement.

The Muslim leaders condemned any insult to Prophet Muhammad (S) and other sacrilegious acts and expressed support for efforts by media outlets to promote the dialogue of civilizations.

They also emphasized the necessity of adopting a united stance toward the Palestinian issue, supporting Sudan against foreign threats, promoting unity among Muslim countries, condemning terrorist actions, supporting Muslim minorities, and respecting Syria’s territorial integrity.

At the end of the meeting, Sudan took over the rotating presidency of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union for a one-year term, and it was decided that Burkina Faso will serve as the next president of the union.
