KUALA LUMPUR: Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man today confirmed the party’s three executive councillors (excos) in Selangor will maintain their respective posts until told otherwise by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

He said the trio were officially appointed by the Sultan, which was in line with the Article 53(7) of the Selangor state constitution.

“We ended our tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) with PKR but our three excos will remain unless the Sultan decides otherwise,” he told reporters after chairing a special Pas central committee meeting here, today.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Article 53(7) stipulated that an exco member, aside from the menteri besar, must maintain his position at His Majesty’s pleasure.

When asked on news reports claiming that Selangor Pas made a decision to pull out all 13 Pas assemblymen if its three excos were forced to quit, Takiyuddin refuted the allegation.

“The media report is false and has been denied Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi. We never made such a decision.”

On PKR’s upcoming annual congress this weekend, Tuan Ibrahim said Pas was invited to attend the event.

“We were invited but we will most likely not be going to respect the Pas Syura Council’s decision to cut ties with PKR.

“But this does not mean we are not friends with them.”

Last Thursday, Pas officially ended its 18-year cooperation with PKR when the Syura Council decided that the move was necessary to defend the party’s Islamic agenda.

The Syura Council accused PKR of breaking many terms of its conditional cooperation with PKR, citing their failure to support it in its Islamic agenda and working against it in two by-elections last year.

The Syura Council is the party’s highest decision-making body
