La Asamblea Nacional Constituyente de Túnez (ANC) puso hoy fin a las discusiones sobre el borrador de la nueva Constitución del país con la aprobación de los últimos artículos que habían provocado diferencias entre los distintos grupos políticos.

Una vez aprobados los 146 artículos de la Ley Fundamental uno a uno, está previsto que en las próximas 24 horas sea presentado el texto en su totalidad ante los Parlamentarios.

Tunisia's Islamist Prime Minister Ali Larayedh has resigned, fulfilling a pledge taken last year to help end the country's political deadlock.

The political crisis was brought about by the assassination of secular politician Mohamed Brahimi in July.

He will be replaced by Industry Minister Mehdi Jomaa, who will head a non-partisan, caretaker government.

Handing in his resignation, Mr Larayedh said: "I hope the country will be a model for democratic transition."

NCA to take ‘Punitive Measures’ against absent members

The National Constituent Assembly (NCA) administrative office is preparing to take “punitive measures” against absentee members, according to state news agency TAP.

Independent NCA member Hatem Klai told TAP on Monday that the measures will also apply to withdrawn NCA members and will only tackle absences recorded during the months of July, August, and September.

The disciplinary action would “ensure the commitment of deputies in order to finish the assembly’s mission,” Klai said to TAP. 

Ruling parties willing to 'Push forward' without Opposition

Members of the ruling coalition threatened that they would “push forward” with the constitution and electoral law in the National Constituent Assembly without the opposition should protests continue and political talks fail to materialize.

“We want these sides to realize that they cannot impose a solution from the street,” Tarek Kahlaoui of the Congress for the Republic, President Moncef Marzouki’s party, said.

Tunisia Islamists urged to fully accept crisis plan

Mediators in Tunisia’s protracted political crisis urged the ruling party on Saturday to fully accept their roadmap for the way forward, saying its response so far had been “ambiguous.”

The ruling Ennahda party had issued a statement on Friday saying it accepted the blueprint for the formation of a government of independents and a national dialogue to finalize a new constitution and clear the way for elections.

Tunisia's governing Islamists on Thursday agreed in principle to a trade union proposal that it step down to make way for a transitional government and new elections.

The coalition's approval of the plan may open up an immediate dialogue with the its secular opponents and end the unrest that erupted after the assassination of an opposition figure in July.

"Our response to the initiative of the union was positive as a platform for dialogue with the political parties," said Ameur Larayedh, a senior official in the moderate Islamist ruling party Ennahda.

Tens of thousands of Tunisians took to the streets of Tunis on Saturday to renew their demands that the Islamist-led government step down and end a political deadlock threatening the north African country's fledgling democracy.

It was the largest protest since Tunisia's crisis erupted over the killing of an opposition leader in July, increasing pressure on the ruling Ennahda party to make way for a caretaker government before proposed elections.

El presidente de la Asamblea Constituyente de Túnez, Mustafa Ben Jaafar, ha anunciado este martes la suspensión indefinida de los trabajos de la Cámara que elabora la nueva Constitución hasta que el Gobierno y la oposición comiencen un diálogo para superar la actual crisis política, según la agencia oficial TAP.

La oposición laica ha pedido en reiteradas ocasiones la disolución de la Asamblea, que está a apenas unas semanas de terminar de redactar el borrador de la nueva Ley Fundamental y de la ley electoral.

El dirigente político Mohamed Brahmi, ex secretario general del movimiento de izquierdas Echaab (Movimiento del Pueblo) fue asesinado este jueves a tiros frente a su casa, en la capital tunecina, informaron fuentes políticas.

El Ministerio de Interior tunecino ya ha confirmado el asesinato y ha asegurado que las fuerzas de seguridad están llevando a cabo las medidas necesarias.

State of emergency extended to three months

President Moncef Marzouki has decided to extend the state of emergency to three months as of July 3, the Presidency of the Republic announced on Monday.

The decision came after the proposal of military and security officials and after consultations with Prime Minister Ali Larayedh and National Constituent Assembly (NCA) President Mustapha Ben Jaafar, the same source added.

In another connection, the Presidency reported the improvement of the security situation in the country thanks to the efforts and sacrifices made by the national army and security forces.

Impeachment motion against Marzouki inadmissible

The impeachment motion against the President of the Republic was considered inadmissible during the plenary session of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) held, on Wednesday, devoted to the examination of the conditions of admissibility of the motion.

 Following the withdrawal of some elected NCA members of their signatures, a day before the holding of the plenary session, 99 NCA members out of 113 judged inadmissible the motion, against 9 NCA members favourable and 5 abstentions.

The National Constituent Assembly (NCA) bureau has decided to examine the draft impeachment motion against Caretaker President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki, in a plenary session set for Wednesday, June 26, Karima Souid, Assessor of the NCA President in charge of Communication told TAP news agency.

The motion has collected 78 signatures from different parliamentary blocks except the elected members of Ennahdha, the Congress for the Republic (CPR) and the Wafa movement.

ssues related to the draft Constitution and ways to reach compromise were discussed at a meeting held Tuesday between Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki and members of Ennahdha National Constituent Caucus in the National Constituent Assembly (NCA).

At the end of the meeting, President of Ennahdha bloc Sahbi Atig stressed the need to find a common ground on conflicting issues raised after the submission of the draft Constitution, the Presidency of the Republic said in a press release.

Emergency state extended to one month

The emergency state will be further extended to one month as of June 4, 2013, the Presidency of the Republic announced on Monday.

"The decision was taken by Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki after consultation with Interim Prime Minister Ali Larayedh, National Constituent Assembly President Mustapha Ben Jaafar and security authorities," said a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.

The emergency state was decreed on January 14, 2011 and extended consecutively since August 1, 2011, by virtue of the decree n°999-2011 of July 21, 2011.

Ben Jaâfar annonce la fin de rédaction du projet final de la constitution

Mustapha Ben Jaâfar, président de l'Assemblée nationale constituante (Anc), a annoncé, samedi matin, la fin officielle des travaux du Comité mixte de coordination et de rédaction avec le projet final de la constitution.

Le projet final de la constitution doit être publié aujourd'hui sur le site officiel de l'Anc.

Selon M. Ben Jaâfar, cette version finale est passée par différentes étapes et versions depuis la première mouture, publié en août 2012, afin d'être amélioré.
