The state government has not lent support to any indivi­dual to become the next Undang of Jelebu – one of the four most powerful chieftains in Negri Sembilan, among those who are responsible for electing the state’s ruler.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Moha­mad Hasan said that anyone claiming to have his support or that of his administration to become the next Undang of Jelebu was telling a lie.

“The state government does not get involved in such matters. Dis­putes on this can only be decided by the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang,” he said.

CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, informed the Chairman of the Council of CIS Heads of Government - Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Zheenbekov on the preparations for the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government to be held tomorrow, on June 7 in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic.

South Sudan resumed talks with Sudan on Sunday on a raft of thorny issues, including borders and oil revenues, still outstanding from its 2011 secession.

The south's foreign affairs, defence, interior and oil ministers travelled to Khartoum for the talks, the first since a unity government was formed in Juba last month in a bid to end its devastating civil war.

"There are some difficulties in our relations," South Sudanese Foreign Minister Deng Alor acknowledged at a joint press conference with his Sudanese counterpart Ibrahim Ghandour.

The Indonesian military (TNI) is rolling out a plan aimed at improving the lives of Sulawesi residents affected by the threat of terrorism from the East Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT).

Militants from the terror group and its leader Santoso, who have been hiding out in Poso regency in Central Sulawesi, are the subject of the largest manhunt in Indonesia.

The spillover violence from their activities have resulted in some hardship for people living in the central and northern parts of the island.

EU foreign policy chief presses Albania on reform package

The European Union’s foreign policy chief on Sunday called on Albania to pass a key judicial reform, considering it a decisive step for the country as it strives for EU membership.

The main opposition Democratic Party is resisting the approval of a final draft package that should be passed by the end of the month to convince Brussels to authorize membership negotiations and also is key to fighting corruption at all levels, especially the judiciary.

As Kyrgyzstan marked the Day of Parliamentarism on June 4, Kyrgyz MP Dastan Bekeshev said that parliamentary democracy is still developing in Kyrgyzstan. "It is too early to say that the parliamentary governance has been established in Kyrgyzstan, so it is necessary to further strengthen it,” he said at the roundtable dedicated to the development of the parliamentary system in Kyrgyzstan.

Parliamentary development is not a constitutional experiment, Bekeshev believes. "We have a parliamentary-presidential form of governance but not yet fully parliamentary governance," he said.

UNHCR urges Sudan to stop deporting Eritreans

The UN refugee agency on Thursday urged Sudan, a key transit route for migrants bound for Europe, to stop "forcibly" deporting hundreds of Eritrean back to their country.

Many of those sent back were arrested as they tried to enter Libya from Sudan, with which the European Union is trying to work to manage the flow of migrants hoping to cross the Mediterranean.

UNHCR's concerns over "collective expulsions" of Eritreans came a day after Human Rights Watch (HRW) said the deported Eritreans were likely to face abuse from a repressive government in their country.

The European Union is urging Albania to complete a package of judicial reforms if it wants to launch full membership talks with the bloc.

Referencing Albania's upcoming appearance in soccer's European Championship in France, the EU's top official for enlargement Johannes Hahn, said in a statement Tuesday that "the coming days will be decisive whether Albania will advance in the Euro Championship or stays in the group stage."
