KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah today opens the new term of the National Assembly which is expected to start with a discussion of a grilling against the Social Affairs and Labor Minister over alleged irregularities. The Amir will address the lawmakers about the local, regional and international situation. The address will be followed by the government statement to be delivered by the Prime Minister in which he will outline the government projects over the next year.

They know well about the daily schedule of candidates contesting local government elections for various slots in their respective union councils. Whether they receive invitation or not they make sure they attend corner meetings of major candidates. And raising slogans, having a good time and consuming refreshments seems to be their core objective.

Muscat: Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Chairman of the Main Committee for the Majlis Al Shura eighth term elections said that the voting process, which started this morning at all wilayats of the Sultanate, is going very smoothly without any hindrances. As per the communications we have with the election centers, voters started turning-out to the polling stations since 7 am.

Muscat: Omani citizens hope that the new Majlis Al Shura members get more privileges in terms of having their voices heard.

Speaking to the Times of Oman, Essa Al Riyami, a voter, said, “Elected Majlis Al Shura members represent the people, so they should have some rights to monitor government activities and projects.”

Muscat: Nemah bint Jamiel bin Farhan Al Busaidiyah, female candidate from Seeb has once again won in the eighth Majlis Al Shura elections.

She was declared winner along with the male candidate Hilal bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sarmi .

She was the only winner in the 2011 elections.

In 2015,there were 20 women candidates from the 590 candidates who contested for 85 seats.

Government shelves controversial ‘Jewish state bill’

The Ministerial Committee for Legislation will not vote Sunday on a controversial bill that would enshrine Israel’s status as the Jewish state, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took the measure off the agenda.

The bill, which has come up for debate in various forms over the last few years, will instead be discussed by a special committee comprising Knesset members from the various coalition parties, Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party said in a statement.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam is not ready to resign from his post and expose the country to more vacuum, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Monday.

Sources denied to the daily recent media reports that said that the premier would step down from his position on Thursday due to ongoing political disputes, most notably those on the trash disposal crisis.

“Who will the prime minister hand in his resignation to? Who will accept or reject it? The presidency has been vacant for over a year and a half,” they said.

Turkish citizens casting their votes abroad for Nov 1 polls increased

The number of Turkish citizens who cast their votes at Turkey’s missions abroad and at boarder gates for the Nov. 1 elections up until Oct. 25 increased by more than 230,000 people in comparison to the June 7 elections. 

Out of 2,899,000 voters who reside abroad and were eligible to vote for the Nov. 1 polls in Turkey’s 113 foreign missions in 54 countries and at border gates, around 1,264,000 of them cast their votes between Oct. 8 and 25.

Two PTI men die in clash with PML-N workers in Lahore

LAHORE: Two Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers were killed and seven others were injured as a clash broke out between PTI and PML-N party workers in Lahore's Yakki Gate area early Monday.

The dead have been identified as Khurram Shehzad and Malik Arif. A minor is among those injured.

The PTI filed a First Information Report (FIR) for murder against seven PML-N workers including Chaudhry Zahid, Malik Ditta and Ahmed Butt.

Majlis Al Shura elections: Salalah to elect two representatives from among eight candidates

Salalah: In the Wilayat of Salalah, voters headed to the ballot boxes to elect two representatives among the eight candidates. The number of male and female voters stood at 32,818.

Four election centres are prepared to receive voters, namely Khoula bint Hakeem School in West Salalah, A'Sa'adah School in A'Sa'adah, Zeik School in the Niyabat of Zeik and Ghado School in the Niyabat of Ghado.
