Tunisia’s National Constituent Assembly voted overwhelmingly Sunday night to adopt a new constitution.

The final draft is the result of meticulous and often contentious negotiations, but was overwhelming approved by assembly members. Over 90 percent of the membership (200 members) voted for it, 12 voted against, and 4  abstained. This support far exceeded the two-thirds majority needed for passage.

The vote followed a floor reading of the entire 146-article document, the product of two years of work.

Bosnia Changes Law to Call 2014 Elections

Bosnian MPs adopted changes to the law on January 23, enabling the Central Electoral Commission to call nationwide October elections.

The Electoral Commission has said it is aiming for elections to take place on October 12. It plans to call the elections in May. 

“There are no more legal obstacles to call the 2014 general elections,” spokesperson Maksida Piric said, noting: “We have to call the elections 150 days before polling day.”

Sali Berisha’s government spent taxpayers’ money on a smear campaign in the US and in Albania directed against his political opponent, Edi Rama, which played well in the hands of the US Republicans and led to calls for an FBI investigation against US President Barack Obama.

Documents obtained by Balkan Insight under the US Justice Department Foreign Agents Registration Act, FARA, show that the Podesta Group, which the Berisha government engaged for over two years, appears to have been behind three negative articles against Rama.

Memebers of the Somali federal Government is set to approve the newly appointed cabinet by H.E Abdiwali Sheikh Ahmed who is the new prime minister of Somalia.

the approval is currently underway and the prime minister needs atleast 139 Mps to support the new cabinet for approval.

"it will not be over today as the country has no working cabinet and the posibility of approving them is high" said mohamed Mohamud Sesey, a federal Mp during a program aired live by Shabelle radio.

Final version of Iranian rights charter expected next month

The Rohani administration has announced that the newly drafted Carter of Citizens’ Rights will be finalized by the end of February.

IRNA reports that the public still has the opportunity to submit ideas regarding the draft, adding that more than a thousand emails about the charter have been sent in so far, and they will be processed and incorporated in the final draft.

He added that more than 120 legal experts have also submitted their review of the draft along with their respective recommendations.

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Monday said Afghanistan could hold transparent elections due on April 5 if foreign interference was not allowed in the process.

The president was addressing a meeting attended by Interior Ministry officials and police chiefs from all the 34 provinces at the Presidential Palace, his office said.

Karzai praised Afghan security forces for their sacrifices in the line of duty and defending the country and the people, a statement issued from his office said.

98.1% approves post-June 30 constitution

The Supreme Electoral Committee (SEC) announced Saturday that the newly drafted national charter was approved by 98.1 percent of voters. SEC head Nabil Salib says 38.6 percent (20,613,677) of registered voters cast ballots in last week's referendum on the draft constitution, surpassing the 32% turnout of 2012 constitutional referendum. The number of 'yes' voters according to Salib was 19,985,389. More than 53,485,423 Egyptians were registered to vote in the constitution referendum that took place on 14 and 15 January, according to SEC.
