   El exprimer ministro Ibrahim Boubacar Keita ha conseguido la victoria en la primera vuelta de las elecciones presidenciales de Malí pero deberá enfrentarse en segunda vuelta a Soumaila Cissé el próximo 11 de agosto, según ha anunciado este viernes el Gobierno.

JOHOR BAHARU, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Barisan Nasional (BN) is still a rational and relevant party although it still needs the component parties to resolve all the internal problems effectively and immediately.

The BN deputy chairman said these included resolving the leadership problem, organisation, effectiveness of its programmes, and carrying out efforts to woo the people to become members and support the party's struggles.

Egypt's military-backed government has ordered police to end sit-ins by supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in the capital Cairo.

"The cabinet has decided to take all measures necessary to confront these risks and put an end to them," an official said in a televised statement.

The statement termed the continued rallies "a national security threat".

Three top Muslim Brotherhood leaders have also been referred to court on charges of inciting violence.

BEIRUT: Speaker Nabih Berri criticized former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Future bloc for recent remarks calling into question his decision to convene Parliament under a resigned government.

“I am surprised at such comments from the largest parliamentary bloc,” Berri said in remarks published Wednesday.

“Parliament is the central institution and it gives legitimacy to the government and all institutions,” he told the local daily Al-Joumhouria.

Former Malian Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita holds a comfortable lead and could win an outright first-round victory in the West African nation's presidential election, according to preliminary results released by a government official.

The final result should be announced later on Wednesday. 

Keita's rivals immediately rejected the partial results, calling for the minister of territorial administration, who is in charge of the elections and made the statement on Tuesday, to resign and an international commission to be established to tally the vote.

EU's Ashton meets ousted Egypt leader Mohammed Morsi

Catherine Ashton visited Mr Morsi on Monday evening and held two hours of "in-depth" discussions with him.

The location of the meeting was not given, but Mr Morsi has been detained since he was overthrown by the military on 3 July after days of mass protests.

Baroness Ashton's visit comes after more than 70 Morsi supporters were killed in clashes with security forces.

Mamnoon Hussain elected as Pakistan's 12th president

According to the initial vote count, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate Mamnoon Hussain has been elected as Pakistan’s 12th president, comfortably securing the majority vote in the presidential election, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Hussain will take oath on September 9.

The incumbent President Asif Ali Zardari, along with a number of politicians congratulated Hussain on his victory.

Kuwait's minority Shia MPs have lost more than half of their seats in the second parliamentary election in less than a year, official results show.

Shia candidates won eight seats in the 50-member parliament, compared with a record 17 in the ballot in December.

Liberal and tribal groups have emerged the main winners. Voter turnout was an estimated 52.5%, which was higher than expected despite an opposition boycott.

The previous parliament was dissolved in December over a procedural flaw.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Umno will be more open, democratic and inclusive in the party's Supreme Council (MT) election in October.

Najib, who is also Umno president, said this was because the election will be carried out based on the new party constitution.

"Election of Umno Supreme Council members is based on the new constitution and hopefully it will lead Umno to become more open, democratic and inclusive," he said in his Facebook here Saturday.
