DOHA QATAR Leadership Centre (QLC) held an orientation day for 35 participants of the newly launched current and future executive leaders programme 2012-2013.  The orientation session was held at the Four Seasons Hotel, in Doha, recently, where Sheikh Dr Abdulla bin Ali al Thani, board member and executive director of QLC outlined the programme goals, structure and QLC vision to the new participants.

At least 200 people were injured as Tunisians demanding jobs and economic development clashed with police, medical sources said, in the latest unrest to hit the country that spawned the Arab uprisings.

Officers on Wednesday fired teargas and birdshot to disperse crowds who rallied for a second day in Siliana, a city in Tunisia's economically deprived interior on the edge of the Sahara desert, witnesses said.

A divisive panel boycotted by liberals and Christians was set to rush out a draft new Egyptian constitution as protests mounted over the political future nearly two years after Hosni Mubarak's overthrow.

President Mohamed Morsi had just last week given the constituent assembly an additional two months until February to complete its work.

But as protests mounted over his decision to grant himself sweeping powers until the text is ratified in a referendum, the panel wrapped up its deliberations on Wednesday and readied for a vote on Thursday.

Sleiman postpones Dialogue to early 2013

President Michel Sleiman postponed Wednesday National Dialogue to early 2013 as MP Walid Jumblatt’s ministers carried on with efforts to bridge the gap between Lebanon’s rival political camps.

Sources at Baabda Palace said the next National Dialogue session, the last round of which was held in September, was scheduled for Jan. 7 of next year. This week’s session had been scheduled for Thursday.

The results are generating tension within the national governing coalition, fueling complaints that new voices are being stifled and causing some observers to raise the specter of a possible repeat of recent history.

Voters in five key municipalities in Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek, Batken, Jalal-Abad, Naryn and Talas – cast ballots November 25 to select new city councils, which choose mayors and make decisions on municipal spending.

MoI authorizes opposition demo – Court won’t rule on electoral decree

KUWAIT: The Interior Ministry yesterday issued a permit to the organizers of the opposition demonstration on Friday, one day before the Dec 1 election. The opposition has decided to stage the demonstration in protest against holding the election on the basis of the amended electoral law. Interior Ministry spokesman Col Adel Al-Hashash told a press conference yesterday that the ministry issued the permit after it found that the application submitted by the organizers met the conditions set by the ministry, mainly that the demonstration must be peaceful.

Sixteen ministries and 17 government departments failed to spend half of their developmental budgets during the outgoing financial year, the Wolesi Jirga Finance and Budget Commission said on Monday.
Under Article 98 of the constitution, the government has to present to the lower during the last quarter of each financial year the budget for the next year. A precise account of the previous year budget will be presented to the assembly during the next six months.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Tuesday expressed satisfaction that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed arrangements for holding the general election in the country.

 The Prime Minister made these remarks while talking to Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan here at the PM House.

 The Secretary Election Commission informed the Prime Minister that a code of conduct has also been prepared by the Election Commission prohibiting display of weapons during election campaign.

 The Prime Minister appreciated the decision.

Thousands of people are gathering in Cairo for a protest against Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi, who last week granted himself sweeping new powers.

Ahead of the rally opposition activists clashed with police, who used tear gas.

Mr Mursi has sought to defuse the crisis by saying the scope of his new powers is limited, but his opponents want him to withdraw his decree.

On Monday, the Muslim Brotherhood cancelled a rally in support of the president to prevent violence.

Share prices on Egypt's stock exchange have plunged almost 9.5 per cent, days after President Mohamed Morsi assumed sweeping powers that sparked clashes and polarised the country's politics.

The main EGX-30 index shed 9.49 per cent by midday (10:00 GMT) on Sunday to reach 4,923.19 points, according to the Egyptian Exchange, with trading suspended for half an hour due to intense investor selling.

The bourse suspended trading for 30 minutes after intense selling by investors, as shares slumped in the first session since the president's announcement.

More than six weeks after being shot, reportedly by his own troops, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz returned home Saturday evening from France, where he'd been receiving medical treatment.
