A limited cabinet reshuffle will see six ministers replaced in Egypt, state newspaper al-Ahram said on Thursday, citing government sources.

The new ministers, who could swear oath on Tuesday, are expected to be those of justice, legal and prosecution affairs, culture, agriculture, planning and international cooperation, and one of the economic portfolio ministries, al-Ahram said, without naming the candidates.

Entekhab website reported today April 30 that former President Mohammad Khatami will not be running in the June presidential elections.

After weeks of speculations on whether the senior reformist figure would run in the elections and repeated endorsements by various progressive organizations, Entekhab website reports that Mohammad Khatami announced today that in view of the many restrictions laid against him by the government, he will not run in the elections.

New hearing in UAE trial over 'political plot'

The trial of 94 UAE Islamist dissidents accused of plotting to seize power in the Gulf state resumed on Tuesday, as rights groups urged Britain to pressure the visiting Emirati president on their behalf.

Only 86 defendants, including 13 women, were present at the top state security court in the United Arab Emirates, WAM state news agency reported. The rest are being tried in absentia.

The women defendants have been on bail since the trial began on March 4. The hearing was adjourned until Monday after the court panel heard defence testimony.

Yisrael Beytenu electoral reform bill sparks uproar

Opposition parties panned a Yisrael Beytenu proposal for electoral reform Wednesday night.

The legislation proposed by Knesset Law, Constitution and Justice Committee chairman David Rotem (Yisrael Beytenu) increases the election threshold to four percent, limits the number of ministers including the prime minister to 19 and deputy ministers to four.

Egypt judges advise against appeal to oust president Mursi

State commissioners of Egypt's administrative court recommended rejecting a case to oust President Mohamed Mursi, saying that it does not fall under the legal jurisdiction of the State Council on Wedensday.

A lawsuit had been filed demanding the dismissal of Mursi from his presidential post on the basis that “he did not commit to his sworn vows of maintaining the country’s stability and security during crisis.”

Bahrain: Amnesty renews call to free jailed teachers' union chief

Rights group Amnesty International has renewed its call for the release of the jailed president of the Bahrain Teachers Association, Mahdi Abu Dheeb.

Mr Abu Dheeb was convicted by a military court of plotting to overthrow the government during unrest that swept Bahrain in 2011.

His original 10-year sentence was subsequently reduced to five on appeal.

Amnesty has described Mr Abu Dheeb as a "prisoner of conscience".

The Tamarod campaign gathers in Tahrir

The Tamarod campaign called on Wednesday for a public gathering in Tahrir Square to collect signatures to withdraw confidence from President Mohamed Morsi.

On its Facebook page, the campaign announced that the gathering is set to take place on Wednesday at 5 pm. The campaign called on citizens to join the gathering and support their calls for withdrawing confidence from Morsi and holding early presidential elections.

The National Assembly, in a session chaired by Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, listened to a report on security situation in North and South Kordofan. The report was presented by the committee set up by the parliament and chaired by Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amin, the chairman of the Parliament's Security and Defence Committee.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday following a parliament session, Al-Tahir affirmed the House's support for the armed forces to defend the country and repulse rebel attack.

Ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Alihas been sentenced on Tuesday,  inabsentia, to life imprisonment inthe case of revolution martyr Omar Haddad (Sfax) and NéjibKhecharm and Makrem Bouassida, injured in Sfax and Kerkennah.

  As to former Interior Minister Rafik Belhaj Kacem, he was handeda 10 year-jail sentence.

The verdict was returned early Tuesday morning by the Military courtof Sfax.

The dialogue of the political parties resumed, on Monday afternoon in Dar Dhiafa in Carthage, in the absence of Al-Joumhouri Party which suspended its participation pending the revelation of the position of the Ennahdha movement concerning the nature of the political regime.

Al-Joumhouri had announced, on Saturday, that it will not resume dialogue as Ennahdha persist to give broader skills to the Prime Minister.

El Presidente de la República Abdelaziz Bouteflika, sufrió ayer a las 12h30, un accidente isquémico transitorio sin secuelas,  anunció el director del Centro nacional de medicina deportiva, el profesor Rachid Bougherbal.

 « Ya han sido iniciadas las primeras investigaciones y Su Excelencia el Presidente de la República debe descansar antes de estar sometido a nuevos reconocimientos médicos », precisó el profesor, subrayando que el estado de salud del jefe del estado no suscita ninguna preocupación ».
