Municipal election law needs to be published in Official Gazette before April (ISIE)

President of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Chafik Sarsar Tuesday said the municipal election law needs to be published in the Official Gazette before next April 4 so that elections may be held in October 2016. 

“The bill was not yet put officially before the House of People’s Representatives (HPR); it should be brought to the floor as soon as possible,” Sarsar indicated.

The election body is now seeking to draw up an election calendar; a meeting is set for Thursday in the presence of the various stakeholders, including the Prime Minister, to debate the best ways to devise a roadmap for the 2016 elections, he announced.
