During the announcement, H E Busaidi said the most important among Shura’s progresses during the previous term has been the issuance of Royal Decree 99/2011 amending some provisions of the State Basic Law, which entrusted the Council of Oman, consisting of both the State Council and the Majlis A’Shura, greater legislative and overseeing powers to ensure participation of all members of society in the nation’s progress.
The term also witnessed the issuance of the Majlis A’Shura Election Law in Royal Decree 58/2013. He said that the term has seen a great development in various legal, procedural and technical aspects, including the formation of the Higher Committee for the Majlis A’Shura  elections. The committee enjoys independence and impartiality, headed by a deputy chairman of the Supreme Court to oversee the elections and examine all electoral appeals.
“The Ministry of Interior, in cooperation and coordination with concerned authorities, took all necessary steps for smooth conduct of the electoral process and facilitating work of the committees supervising the polls to enable citizens to exercise their right - whether contesting or casting their votes – as per law,” he said.
