Farouk Ksentini and Rekhila Ameur affirmed Thursday that the draft revision of the Constitution enshrines the principles of democracy and the foundations of a new political, social and cultural life.

In a statement to APS, the chairman of the National Consultative Commission for Human Rights Protection and Promotion (CNCPPDH) Farouk Ksentini underlined that "with its political, social and cultural three-dimensional structure, the draft revised Constitution proposed a modern constitution which enshrines a new political life."

According to him, the text "gets to the heart of issues to strengthen society" and extends the democratic practice, notably by giving many prerogatives to the parliament and by providing numerous guarantees for the protections of rights and freedoms, strengthening the independence of justice and the rights of the people under the jurisdiction of a judge or a court.

Ksentini welcomed the creation of an independent commission to monitor elections, affirming that "there is no democracy without fair elections."

For his part, Prof. Rekhila underlined that the draft revised Constitution "has constitutionalized a series of issues relating to economy, society, environment, youth and others."

He said that the document is a "programme-constitution" whose provisions are inherent to natural rights and to the citizens' social life.

Rekhila affirmed that the most important points of this draft revised Constitution concern "the enshrinement of Amazigh dimension in the national identity," adding that it also promotes the opposition's action.
