AMMAN — The results of a poll released on Wednesday revealed a considerable decline in the percentage of Jordanians who believe their country is on the right track, both economically and politically.
The Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan conducted a poll during October over Jordanians’ evaluation of the performance of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour’s second Cabinet after 200 days in office.

Jordan wins UN Security Council seat
NEW YORK –– The UN General Assembly on Friday endorsed Jordan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for the 2014-15 term.
A total of 178 out of 193 members of the UN General Assembly voted in favour of Jordan.
Jordan needed a two-third majority to win the seat.
Ahead of the vote, participants stood for one minute to pay respect to South African iconic leader, Nelson Mandela, who passed away on Thursday.
Poll results announced for 98 municipalities
AMMAN — Minister of Municipal Affairs Walid Masri announced the final results of the municipal elections for 98 municipalities across the country on Wednesday, with the exception of three in Karak.
Tuesday’s results from some areas of Karak Governorate will not be considered after two ballot boxes were stolen and several others damaged in the Faqou election centre, which lies in Karak’s Abdullah Bin Rawaha Municipality, Masri said during a press conference on Wednesday.
Municipal elections conducted fairly and securely despite low turnout — officials
AMMAN — The government on Tuesday labelled the municipal elections a success despite the low turnout.
Officials said the overall number of the voters across the Kingdom reached around 880,000 out of the 2.357 million registered for the polls, or 37.3 per cent approximately.
A noticeably low participation rate was recorded in Amman, where only 10.5 per cent of eligible voters participated in the polls.
Voting process going smoothly –– official
AMMAN –– Minister of Municipal Affairs Walid Masri said on Tuesday that the voting process in the country’s municipal elections is going smoothly, describing turnout so far as “good”.
At a press conference, Masri noted that there were some technical problems in a few polling centres, indicating that more than 4,200 local and international observers are monitoring the process across the Kingdom.
Jordanians to elect mayors, council members Tuesday
AMMAN — As of early morning Tuesday, more than 2.3 million Jordanians are expected to head to polling centres to cast their votes for candidates in the municipal elections.
The elections will see thousands of candidates running for the position of mayor and spots on municipal councils of 100 municipalities, in addition to the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM).

AMMAN — A Royal Decree was issued on Wednesday approving Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour’s first Cabinet reshuffle since he came to office in March this year, raising his team members to 27 from 19, including the premier.

Deputies discuss three of 164 articles in Rules of Procedure
AMMAN — Deputies on Sunday could not discuss more than three articles out of 164 of the Lower House Rules of Procedure, increasing fears that they will not be able to conclude discussions over the regulations before the end of the week.
Only two meetings are left before the current non-ordinary Parliament session concludes, making it unlikely that MPs will be able to endorse the amended rules this week, parliamentary sources said following their meeting on Sunday.
Brotherhood leader to run in municipal polls despite group boycott
AMMAN — A leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood said on Thursday that he will run in the upcoming municipal elections despite the group’s decision to boycott the August 27 polls.
Speaking to The Jordan Times in a phone interview on Thursday, Nabil Kofahi said he was nominated by 400 figures from Irbid Governorate, some 80km north of Amman, to run for the city’s mayoral race.
“They have chosen me and I could not say no,” he added.
