A group of activists have urged the Congolese authorities to ensure the arrest of the Sudanese President, wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Darfur.

President Omer Al-Bashir is in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to attend the 17th Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) summit taking place in the capital, Kinshasa.

Sudan’s ruling NCP to distribute invitations for national dialogue

Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has announced it will extend a written invitation to all political parties to engage in a national dialogue to agree on a mechanism for implementing president Omer Hassan al-Bashir recent initiative.

The NCP political secretary, Mustafa Osman Ismail, said in the media forum organized by the National Union of Sudanese Youth (NYSY) that all-party dialogue reduces cost of war, pointing that Bashir’s call for national dialogue does not mean failure of previous initiatives for dialogue extended by other political forces.

Sudan’s opposition coalition holds talks with NCP splinter faction

The leaders of Sudanese opposition coalition of the National Consensus Forces (NCF) held a meeting on Saturday with their peers in the Reform Now Party (RNP) which was formed late last year after it split with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

The meeting, which follows a series of talks held between the RNP and other political forces, agreed on the importance of removing restrictions on freedoms, stopping the war and the creation of the atmosphere for national dialogue in order to reach a comprehensive national reconciliation.

SPLM-N rebels say Khartoum is not interested in comprehensive peace

Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N) on Friday criticized the position paper presented by the Sudanese government during the first days of negotiations, saying Khartoum is only interested in partial solutions.

In a three-hour meeting held on Friday, the Sudanese government and rebel delegations exchanged their negotiating position papers before to engage in talks brokered by African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) over the resolution of the armed conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

Road map for Darfur security arrangements ready to be implemented: DRA

The Sudanese presidency and the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) have agreed on the road map and schedules for the implementation of the security arrangements as stipulated in the Doha document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

The two parties decided to start with the practical implementation of the security arrangements immediately upon securing the necessary funds. On Tuesday, First Vice-President Bakri Hassan Saleh and the head of the DRA, Dr Tijani Sese, discussed the obstacles facing the implementation of the DDPD.

Sudan’s NCP may delay 2015 elections

Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) is not opposed to postpone the general elections of 2015, said the party’s spokesperson who called on the position parties to participate in the electoral process.

The head of NCP organisational sector, Hamid Sideeq made his remarks on Tuesday reacting to the statements by opposition parties threatening to boycott the next election as they demand a comprehensive conference to discuss regional conflicts and democratic reforms.

Sudanese opposition calls for mass celebration of the 1964 'October Revolution'

The coalition of opposition parties National Consensus Forces (NCF) called for a mass celebration on Monday on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1964 “October Revolution” that toppled the military government of the late President Ibrahim Abboud.

The Spokesperson for the NCF, Kamal Omar indicated that the NCF does not believe in the possibility of a solution within the current system, explaining that the coalition is currently stepping up its actions to topple the regime.

Abyei referendum should be conducted without tribal interference

Jeing Youth Union in South Sudan has issued a press release calling to emplace the Abyei referendum in October 2013; the Union encourages the international community to exert more pressure on the Government of Sudan to accept the census of eligible voters proposed by the AU-led mediation team last year and to set the date with no delay.
Sudanese government has totally refused to leave the Misseriya out of the elections claiming their rights over the land of Abyei despite of the mediation team recommendation for which only permanent residents could cast the vote (mainly Dinka Ngok)

Sudan’s opposition PCP says regime downfall ‘imminent’

Sudan’s opposition Popular Congress Party (PCP) has expressed optimism on the imminent demise of the Sudanese regime to bring what it says was two decades of turbulence, corruption and civil wars to an end.

The PCP’s political secretary Kamal Omer declared on Monday that opposition forces are united around the goal of toppling the regime led by president Omer Hassan al-Bashir and said that the opposition is setting up coordination committees among grassroots to bring about an unprecedented breakthrough.

Speculations about ministerial reshuffle in Sudan

Different sources have expected a large ministerial reshuffle in Khartoum, saying that the first vice-president Ali Osman Taha might be relieved from his position.

A presidential source told Sudan Tribune on Sunday that First Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha is one of the most prominent figure that will quit the government in the upcoming reshuffle, adding he will dedicate his time as deputy chairman to the management of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

Sudan’s parliament suspends activities to push for military mobilisation

Sudan’s National Assembly has decided to suspend its sessions next week in order to enable lawmakers to head to their constituencies and lead a mobilisation campaign in support of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in its ongoing battle with rebel groups which have stepped up their military activities in recent months.

The national assembly speaker, Ahmed Ibrahim al-Tahir directed MPs to go to their states and meet with the local governments in order to mobilise youth to support SAF.

"We want people to defend themselves and offer self-sacrifice” al-Tahir said.

Sudan NCP endorses proposal to extend Bashir’s mandate for 5 years

Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) approved a proposal on Tuesday aimed at amending its statute and extending the term of president Omer Hassan al-Bashir from four to five years.

NCP’s secretary of women’s affairs, Samia Ahmed Mohamed, told reporters in Khartoum that the proposal will be submitted to the Shura Council, the only organ entitled to amend the statute of the party.

Such amendment will mean the extension of Bashir’s leadership of the party for an additional year.

Parliament Urges National Mobilization

The National Assembly, in a session chaired by Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, listened to a report on security situation in North and South Kordofan. The report was presented by the committee set up by the parliament and chaired by Mohamed Al-Hassan Al-Amin, the chairman of the Parliament's Security and Defence Committee.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday following a parliament session, Al-Tahir affirmed the House's support for the armed forces to defend the country and repulse rebel attack.
