Kurdistan politicians are considering a total withdrawal from the Iraqi political arena after the Iraqi parliament approved the 2018 with a reduced share for the autonomous region.

Sputnik quoted Shakhwan Abdullah, a parliament member of the Kurdish Alliance, saying that following the passing of the budget, several options were discussed, including a withdrawal from the political process.

Kurdish factions to continue to meet with Iraqi President on Saturday

Muthana Amin, the head of the KIU faction in parliament, told Rudaw that the Kurdish blocs’ meetings with President Masum will continue and "we will be in touch with the Kurdistan government and relevant parties."

He added they will have another meeting on Saturday to decide whether or not attend the parliament to pass the budget bill.

Erbil and Baghdad coming to an agreement should resolve the budget dispute, according to Amin.

Provincial Elections set for December

The Iraqi Council of Ministers has reportedly set the 22nd December 2018 as the date for the provincial elections to be held in Iraq.

Previously, the provincial elections were scheduled for before the national elections; however, the fight against the IS as well as the ongoing displacement crisis prevented these from being held earlier.

The vote was originally scheduled to be held on the 16th September 2017, but was later postponed with reports suggesting that they would be held in conjunction with the national elections set for May of this year.

Los desplazados por el conflicto en Irak podrán participar en las elecciones locales y parlamentarias previstas para el 12 de mayo, según ha confirmado este domingo el secretario general del Consejo de Ministros, Mahdi al Allaq.

"Las familias desplazadas de todas las provincias tendrán derecho a participar en el próximo proceso electoral",ha dicho, agregando que "se ha puesto en marcha una acción para permitir que los desplazados voten", según ha informado el portal local de noticias Alghad Press.

El primer ministro de Irak, Haider al Abadi, ha defendido este miércoles la unidad del país durante una sesión parlamentaria que ha contado con el boicot de los partidos kurdos en protesta por el reparto de los Presupuestos.

"Estamos orgullosos de la unidad en la lucha contra el terrorismo, cuando el Ejército, la Policía, las Fuerzas de Movilización Popular --una coalición de milicias principalmente chiíes aliadas del Gobierno-- y los peshmerga estaban en una misma trinchera, preservando la unidad de Irak como país", ha dicho Al Abadi.

El Parlamento iraquí votó hoy por unanimidad para que las elecciones legislativas tengan lugar finalmente en la fecha fijada, el próximo 12 de mayo, después de que varios grupos políticos pidieran posponerlas.

"El Parlamento votó por unanimidad que la fecha para las elecciones será el próximo 12 de mayo", dijo el diputado iraquí Abás al Bayati, miembro del Parlamento, citado por el canal estatal Al Iraqiya.

La decisión de la Cámara llega después de que no hubiese quórum en estos últimos días en las distintas sesiones parlamentarias.

El primer ministro iraquí, Haidar al Abadi, anunció la formación de una nueva coalición electoral amplia, sin sectarismos religiosos, para disputar las próximas elecciones parlamentarias decididas por el gobierno para el 12 de mayo y a falta de confirmar por el Parlamento.

"Declaro a mi pueblo con todas sus facciones, componentes y bajo la bandera de Irak unido, la formación de la coalición Al Nasr (la Victoria) contra el sectarismo y la discriminación", dijo Al Abadi en un comunicado difundido de madrugada.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Iraq's 2018 parliamentary and provincial elections will be held three days earlier than previously set in order to not interfere with the start of the holy month of Ramadan. The office of the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi announced that the Council of Ministers officially approved during the weekly meeting on Tuesday that the country’s next elections will be on May 12, 2018. Iraq's electoral commission previously had recommended the date of May 12, but Tuesday's approval makes the date-change official.

Iraqi cabinet sets date for upcoming parliamentary election

The Iraqi cabinet set on Wednesday the date for the upcoming parliamentary election on May 15, 2018.   

In a statement, the cabinet said that the federal government would be responsible for providing a secure environment to hold the elections and help displaced persons return to their districts. 

Electronic voting will be available. Political parties taking part in the elections are not supposed to have armed wings, it noted.

Both and Turkey and the Iraqi central government said on Oct. 26 that the results of an independence referendum held by Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) last month should be annulled.

The damage caused by the independence vote is “unrecoverable,” Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Oct. 26, while earlier in the day, his Iraqi counterpart Haider al-Abadi vowed that Baghdad “will not accept anything but the cancellation of the referendum.”

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has offered to freeze the results of the independence referendum and called for all military operations to cease for an open dialogue with Baghdad to begin.

In a statement early Wednesday morning, the KRG stated that due to the grave and dangerous circumstances facing Iraq and Kurdistan, all sides are obliged to act responsibly in order to prevent further violence and clashes between Iraqi and Peshmerga forces.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Tuesday announced that elections for the presidency and parliament would be delayed by eight months.

The decision came after the Kurdistan Region’s Independent High Electoral and Referendum Commission (IHERC) on Monday noted that political parties had not presented candidates for both elections.

The suggestion to postpone the presidency and parliamentary elections was approved by 60 of 68 Members of Parliament who attended a session in Erbil.

More than 92% of voters in Iraqi Kurdistan have opted for independence, according to election monitors, in an overwhelming endorsement of a proposed split from Baghdad that has sparked increasing threats of air and land blockades that could be imposed as early as Friday.
