Religious minorities take part in Iran legislative elections

Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, Armenians and Assyrians are getting ready to cast their ballots in Iran’s eleventh parliamentary elections. Under the Constitution, there are five reserved seats in the legislature for Iran’s religious minorities. Speaking to Press TV, voters said, their communities will take part in elections as it’s a national duty.

JERUSALEM — Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz is vowing to form a government that will include neither the indicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor the predominantly Arab parties in Parliament.

In a series of TV interviews two weeks before national elections, Gantz looked to project confidence that the March 2 vote will provide the decisive outcome that eluded the two previous elections last year.

Thousands of Iranian candidates approved to run in parliamentary elections kicked off their campaigns on Thursday ahead of next week's vote, even after authorities barred thousands of others from running, mainly reformists and moderates.

 

The February 21 parliamentary elections come amid high tensions between Tehran and Washington, which is at its peak in 40 years.

Amazigh activists in Morocco have launched a new movement they called the «Amazigh Political Action Front» (APAF). «The initiative is led by several young activists from different regions of the country. Some of its members had formerly been part of the dissolved Moroccan Amazigh Democratic Party (PDAM). Tunisia's Islamist Ennahdha party has rejected a new government proposal that excludes other parties, and is open to contest another election.

The biggest party in Parliament in a statement on Monday threatened to upend a second attempt to form a coalition government since elections in October, which fragmented the political establishment.
