Qatar moved a step closer to holding legislative elections Wednesday after delaying them repeatedly for over a decade. The country’s ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, issued a decision establishing a committee to prepare for elections to a key legislative body, according to a tweet from state-run Qatar News Agency.

Authorities in Iraq have declared a curfew in the capital, Baghdad, where mass anti-government demonstrations continue for a fourth day.

 

The renewed protests came weeks after an earlier wave of rallies broke out as a result of widespread anger at high-level corruption, mass unemployment and poor public services. More than 200 people have been killed in this month's demonstrations in Baghdad and several southern cities.

As speculation among Afghan presidential contenders continues, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) still has not managed to come up with an exact date to announce the preliminary results of the elections.

There are reports that Election Commission officials are in conflict with the commission’s secretariat.

IEC commissioner Awrangzeb on Saturday said that the proposal to delay the preliminary result for three weeks by the IEC’s secretariat has been facing opposition and that meetings are underway to settle the issue.

October 21, 2019 (KHARTOUM) - Sudanese took to the streets in the capital Khartoum and several Sudanese cities to express their impatience and called to expedite reforms and dismantle the former regime.

The rallies were organized by the Sudanese Professionals Association, the spearhead of the protests that overthrown al-Bashir regime last April, to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the first popular uprising against a military regime in 1964.

Election Preliminary Result Could Face Delay: IEC

The Independent Election Commission on Tuesday said that the announcement of the preliminary election results might be delayed.

Rahima Zarifi, an IEC commissioner, stated that the possible delay for the preliminary results could be between three or four days or a week, but she said that the commission is working in three shifts to accelerate the process.

The Council of Presidential Candidates on Tuesday accused Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah for being involved in large-scale electoral fraud.

 

They said that each of these two candidates declared himself winner of the election while the nation was still awaiting the election commission to separate the valid and invalid votes.  

 

The Council members also said that any attempt to put pressure on the election result before the invalidation of fake votes could push the country into crisis.

Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman [UAE]: Dubai: The Federal National Council (FNC) elections have been successfully conducted across the country and concluded late evening on Saturday with the declaration of preliminary results of winning candidates.

The National Election Committee (NEC) announced the names of the winning candidates at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) in the capital.
