President Hadi negotiates with southern movement to resume NDC participation
SANA’A, Aug. 19—Discussions to resume participation of the Southern Movement and southern representatives of other parties in the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) are ongoing between President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi and leaders of the major Southern Movement faction, the Southern People’s Conference (SPC). Southerners suspended their participation in the NDC last Tuesday to protest the ‘slow’ resolution of the Southern Issue.

El presidente interino de Egipto, Adli Mansur, ha recibido este martes el borrador constitucional elaborado por un comité técnico y según el cual, en caso de aprobarse, quedarían prohibidos los partidos basados en ideologías religiosas, aunque el Islam seguiría siendo la religión del Estado.
Después de un mes de deliberaciones y revisiones, los diez miembros del comité técnico han finalizado la redacción del nuevo borrador, con el que han modificado la Constitución de 2012, según ha informado el diario egipcio 'Al Ahram'.

Official: Hamas rejects call to hold general elections
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A meeting held late Sunday to discuss political reconciliation failed to make progress as the Hamas movement rejected the idea of holding general elections, a Fatah official said.
Amin Maqboul, secretary-general of Fatah's revolutionary council, told Ma'an that Hamas rejected a proposal presented by Fatah to hold legislative, presidential and general elections.
Hamas said they wanted to implement all reconciliation issues at the same time.
Turkish parties shaping their local election candidates
Unless there is an extraordinary shift in the agenda, Turkey will declare its local elections calendar on January 1, 2014, and hit the ballot box on March 30, 2014. Five months later, in August, Presidential elections will take place. After these two elections, if not predated, general elections will be held in June 2015.
Overseas voters could use e-voting system
The Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) said that the government should seriously consider implementing an electronic voting (e-voting) system for overseas voters to make it easier for them to cast their votes.
Perludem executive director Titi Anggraini said on Thursday that the government had begun discussing an e-voting system in 2009 but it never came to fruition. She said that to begin with, the government could introduce the system to overseas voters.
Skirmish at Kara-Suu local council election
A skirmish occurred the day before in Kara-Suu district at election to local council, the Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan confirmed the information to journalists of 24.kg news agency .
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred yesterday at one of the voting precincts. The conflict flared up between representatives of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan (the ruling party) and the newly formed political organization Onuguu.
At the time law enforcement agencies are trying to find out causes of the incident. Three people were wounded.

"The one contesting at the Wanita Umno election is me, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and not my husband, (NFC chairman Datuk Dr) Mohamad Salleh Ismail.
Aoun says differences with Hezbollah persist
BEIRUT: Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement remain at odds over a number of local and regional matters including Syria, MP Michel Aoun said in an interview published over the weekend.
“There are differences [with Hezbollah] over a number of issues, mainly over establishing the state, democracy, settling the situation of south Lebanon, the Palestinian cause and Syria,” Aoun told the pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper.
Aoun, who has previously defended Hezbollah’s military role in Syria, said his FPM opposed any military intervention in foreign states.

Karzai backs no particular presidential candidate
KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai is not backing any particular candidate for the April 5 presidential election, his spokesman said on Thursday, rejecting some media reports in this regard as baseless.
Aimal Faizi, the presidential spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the president had started consultations and advisory meetings with political and jihadi leaders on the country’s political future, the upcoming elections and other issues of national interest.
Dems Seek a Tight Rein on Convention
People seeking the presidential nomination at the Democratic Party’s much-anticipated convention could see themselves disqualified through regulations that will be put together by party bosses, an official from the convention committee said.
“Participants of the convention can be disqualified. However, it is hoped that none will have to be disqualified,” said Suaidi Marasabessy, the secretary of the convention committee.
He added that the committee is still deliberating on the specific conditions of the disqualification policy. “It may be regulated later,” he said.
Rosnah To Confirm Grassroots Support Before Deciding To Compete In Umno Election
PAPAR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said she was still considering the possibility of competing for a Wanita Umno central post, including the post of deputy president, in the party election in October.
Rosnah, who is also deputy works minister, said a lot of factors needed to be considered, including support from the movement's grassroots before making a decision.
MP says Lebanon being held hostage
BEIRUT: Beirut MP Michel Pharaon voiced concern Thursday that the country was in a state of paralysis and being held hostage to recurrent security incidents that are shunting any progress.
“The entire country has become a hostage and not just the Turkish pilot and his assistant, the [state] institutions are being held hostage, the Cabinet, Parliament’s activity and the activity of some institutions,” said the MP after meeting Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam.
