BEIRUT: Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad said Saturday the resistance group and its allies should be fully represented in the next Cabinet or the government will never form.

“We have agreed with our allies that either we all participate in the government or we are all out,” Raad, head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, said during an Iftar hosted by Hezbollah in the south.

Raad said that his party would not accept any other government make-up “in order to guarantee that no [political party] conspires against [Hezbollah].”

Mahfud MD, the former Constitutional Court chief justice, remains the strongest presidential candidate for the National Awakening Party, according to party members who have refuted rumors that dangdut singer Rhoma Irama is likely to take the helm.

NDC approves new electoral system

PPP decides to boycott presidential elections

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced to boycott the presidential elections according to presidential candidate Raza Rabbani during an emergency press conference, Express News reported on Friday.

Raza Rabbani expressed concern over the fact that the Supreme Court decided the earlier date for the election as July 30 instead of August 6, whereas the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is an independent body.

Morsi accused of treason?

Mohamed Morsi, ex-president of Egypt and a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Bureau, is being investigated on suspicion of treason and conspiracy to murder.

Several lawyers and political activists have filed lawsuits against Morsi, accusing him of coordinating with foreign elements to spread chaos and kill Egyptians during the early days of the 25 January Revolution and during his year in office.

Deputy Mohamed Brahmi shot dead

Deputy and General Co-ordinator of the People's Trend Mohamed Brahmi was shot dead on Thursday in his car, in front of his home at El Ghazala district, in the city of Ariana.

The news has been officially confirmed by the Interior Ministry via its spokesman Mohamed Ali Aroui.

The victim was transferred to the Ariana Mahmoud el Materi hospital, where a medical source confirmed his death to TAP news agency.

Late Mohamed Brahmi was already dead when he was admitted to hospital, according to the same source.

The new cabinet will have 19 ministries, four more than the outgoing government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, he noted.

Rama’s Socialist-led alliance won a landslide victory in the June 23 parliamentary election, winning 84 of the 140 seats in parliament.

Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş told reporters July 24 that the ultimate decision on who would run for his position next term is up to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), while adding that he “is here.” 

“I am here, if God allows it… Of course this is politics. Our citizens and my party will be making that decision. I thank my party for giving me two consecutive terms,” Topbaş said during an iftar event hosting representatives of Istanbul’s local authorities.
