Beirut: Lebanon expects to hold a parliamentary election on May 6, 2018 and parliament will extend its current term until May 20 that year, information minister Melhem Riachy told journalists during a cabinet session on Wednesday.

The opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has criticized a draft report prepared by a parliamentary commission formed to investigate the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, saying that the political and financial leg of the coup attempt was not revealed by “obstacles put by AKP [ruling Justice and Development Party] members of the commission.”

The Muslim World League posted a statement reaffirming their support for the joint four Arab powers releasing a list of Qatar-linked designated terrorists.

The Muslim World League has said it supports a decision by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt in designating 59 Qatar-linked individuals and 12 entities with ties to terrorism.

Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region has called a referendum on independence to be held on Sept. 25, an official said on Wednesday, moving ahead with a plan for full statehood that is likely to be opposed by Baghdad.

Hemin Hawrami, assistant to Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani, tweeted: “big news. Kurdistan Referendum for independence is on 25/9/2017.”

Arab countries' decisions led by Saudi Arabia are founded on 'baseless' allegations, Qatar foreign ministry says.

Qatar said there is "no legitimate justification" for several nations cutting diplomatic ties after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Bahrain, Yemen and the Maldives announced they would suspend relations with the Gulf state.

The Saudi kingdom made the announcement via its state-run Saudi Press Agency early on Monday, saying it was taking action for what it called the protection of national security.
