TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli announced that almost 4,000 people are likely to declare candidacy for the upcoming parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections early 2016.

"There are signs and indications that some 4,000 people plan to declare their candicacy in the elections," Rahmani Fazli told reporters in Tehran on Monday.

He predicted that the upcoming parliamentary and Experts Assembly elections would be a scene of hot rivalries.

In February, Iran's vetting body, the Guardian Council, agreed with an Interior Ministry proposal for holding the country's next parliamentary elections in February 2016.

Spokesman of Iran’s Guardian Council Nejatollah Ebrahimian announced that the official date for the next legislative elections in the country would be February 26 next year.

Iran’s Interior Ministry, which is charged with organizing the vote, had demanded the Guardian Council to pick a choice between February 26 and March 4 next year, he said.

Also in May, Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaqari announced the country's plans to set up cyber bases to boost security of the upcoming parliamentary elections in February 2016.

"The damages and threats in area of elections are divided into three political, security and management categories," Zolfaqari told FNA.

"The elections security headquarters has been activated in provinces and towns and we will have desirable levels of security during the elections through setting up cyber bases, intelligence superiority and monitoring the situation," he added.
