TEHRAN, Apr. 30 (MNA) – Parliamentary runoff elections have decided to lend a new hue on Baharestan, the seat of Iran’s Parliament or Islamic Consultative Assembly, effectively leaving out the majority of representatives of the 9th edition.

Runoff election results show that only 26.5 per cent of the representatives sitting in the green seats of Baharestan Parliament building will have another chance to have their seats; this means that the overwhelming majority of Parliamentarians will have seats left vacant by death, resignation, disqualification by the Guardian Council or defeat in the elections of hapless candidates who had invested much hope in another term in Parliament.

The runoff elections also decided the ultimate partisan colorings of the Parliament now that 55 constituency knew their representatives. In February 26 elections, 191 representatives failed to secure public trust upon themselves and had to compete for second time or abandoned the fight altogether; the figure also included deceased and disqualified, or resigned representatives, whereas only 29 sitting representatives secured enough number of votes to ascend to the runoff elections. Surprisingly, 22 of them lost their seats with only 7 representatives to continue to serve in Parliament.

Overall, 213 representatives will not sit anymore in their seats in Parliament and the new composition will impart a new hue to Baharestan building which had once been wearing a Principlist colorings. The future developments in the Parliament will well indicate the weight and influence of the new factions and groupings in working with government of President Rouhani.
