TEHRAN, Aug. 02 (MNA) – While the official dates for the 2017 presidential election will be announced in Nov., Mehr News has drawn up dates based on the previous elections' timetables.

Following Ministry of Interior Affair’s letter to the Guardian Council suggesting to postpone the 2017 election day due to its concurrence with the fasting month of Ramadan, the Council in today’s session agreed to hold the presidential elections on 19 May 2017.

Mohammad Hossein Moghimi, Deputy Interior Minister and head of election commission, said the 2017 presidential elections timetable will be announced this November. However, according to the elections timetables of previous years and regulations for settnig dates for election procedures, and considering the fact that the 2017 presidential election will be held 26 days ahead of the schedule (14 June), it can be predicted that candidate nominations will most likely open on 11 April and continue for five days.

Based on this timeframe, the executive board of elections will form on the day the registration for candidates opens and continue for three days.

The Guardian Council will start the vetting process the day after the enrollment is closed. The process will last for five days which will probably fall on 21 April.

Following that, the Guardian Council will consider five days to address the possible objections from those candidates who have been disqualified.

The Ministry of Interior Affairs will then announce the candidate names to the public from 26 April.

Electoral campaigns will start on 27 April and continue for 20 days. The candidates are forbidden to continue with their campaigns on 18 May which is 24 hours before the opening of the polls.

Voting period for the 12th round of Iran’s presidential election will begin at 8:00 am in the morning of 19 May, 2017. Elections for councils of cities and villages as well as parliamentary elections in constituencies which still have free seats in Parliament will be held along with presidential electons on the same day.
