Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has introduced three ministerial nominees to lead the Iranian ministries of sports and youth affairs, education as well as culture and Islamic guidance.

In a letter to Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday, Rouhani named his picks for the three vacant ministerial portfolios for votes of confidence.

The president proposed the current head of the National Library and Archives Organization of Iran, Reza Salehi Amiri, for the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

Rouhani also introduced his vice president and the current head of the Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization, Massoud Soltanifar, as his pick for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

He also named Fakhroddin Ahmadi Danesh Ashtiani, a university professor, as the candidate to head the Ministry of Education.

The president’s move came after the resignation of Ali Jannati, Mahmoud Goudarzi, and Ali Asghar Fani as the ministers of culture and Islamic guidance, sports and youth affairs and education, respectively, last week.

Jannati was chosen the culture minister after he won the parliament’s confidence vote with 234 votes in favor, 36 against and 12 abstentions.

Goudarzi won the Iranian parliament’s vote of confidence in November 2013 as President Rouhani’s fourth nominee for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs after securing 199 votes out of the total 267 votes cast. Some 44 lawmakers voted against him and 24 others abstained.

Fani managed to win the vote of confidence from the parliament and take office as the minister of education in October 2013 after Mohammad Ali Najafi was rejected for the post.

Fani was reinstated in his post in June 2015 after securing a vote of confidence from lawmakers in an impeachment session.
