Egyptian expats head to the polls on 16 March. Egypt's National Elections Authority (NEA) announced that the official electoral silence period began on Wednesday for 48 hours before Egyptians cast their votes in the 2018 presidential elections.

According to NEA spokesperson Judge Mahmoud El-Sherif, any electoral campaigning activity is not allowed in the media during the electoral silence period, yet public discussion about the elections and its procedures is welcomed.

On 16 March, Egyptian expatriates will begin voting in Egypt's presidential elections at the country's consulates and embassies worldwide, selecting between current President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and his rival, Ghad party leader Moussa Mostafa Moussa.

The NEA has called upon eligible Egyptian voters to do so, as long as they have an Egyptian national ID, regardless of whether or not it is expired. An Egyptian passport is also valid for voting at diplomatic missions.

According to El-Sherif, voting will be held at 139 diplomatic missions in 124 countries across the globe.
