El candidato presidencial del opositor y prokurdo Partido Democrático de los Pueblos (HDP) de Turquía, Selahattin Demirtas, inició hoy desde la cárcel su campaña para las elecciones del próximo 24 de junio.

Demirtas, en prisión preventiva desde noviembre de 2016 por supuestos vínculos con el ilegal Partido de los Trabajadores del Kurdistán (PKK), es un antiguo líder del partido.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday instructed aspiring candidates to submit an affidavit, detailing their assets, along with their nomination papers.

A five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, resumed hearing of a petition filed by former National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq challenging a Lahore High Court (LHC) verdict rejecting nomination papers, drafted by a parliamentary committee, for violating Article 62, 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Le ministre tunisien de l’Intérieur Lotfi Brahem a été démis de ses fonctions mercredi 6 juin par Youssef Chahed. Le chef du gouvernement entreprend ainsi de faire le ménage au sein de son gouvernement, une manière d’anticiper le remaniement ministériel prévu à la reprise des discussions de l’accord de Carthage, en début de semaine prochaine.

Le premier à passer à la trappe : le ministre de l’Intérieur, Lotfi Brahem. Le chef du gouvernement tunisien Youssef Chahed l’a démis de ses fonctions ce mercredi 6 juin, selon un communiqué du gouvernement, sans en donner les raisons.

The incumbent Member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Presidency Mladen Ivanic announced his candidacy for another term at the upcoming general elections on Monday in Banja Luka, a city 190 kilometers northwest of the capital Sarajevo.

During the meeting, representatives of 10 parties in Republika Srpska (RS), one of the entities in BiH, signed the Agreement on Principles of Joint Action, presenting Ivanic as a candidate for BiH Presidency in front of Parties of Alliance for Change.

Opposition parties from the Alliance for Change coalition in Bosnia’s Serb-dominated Republika Srpska entity signed an agreement to co-operate in a bid to defeat President Milorad Dodik’s party at polls in October.

Three major Bosnian Serb opposition parties, along with six other political groups, joined forces on Monday in an attempt to defeat the coalition centred around Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik’s Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD, which has been in power in the entity for 12 years.

Las autoridades de Turquía han anunciado que autorizan al candidato a la Presidencia del prokurdo Partido Democrático de los Pueblos (HDP), Selahattin Demirtas, emitir discursos de campaña en la televisión estatal TRT, a pesar de encontrarse encarcelado a la espera de juicio.

La Comisión Electoral Suprema (YSK) ha detallado que todos los candidatos tendrán autorización para emitir dos discursos de diez minutos de duración a través de la cadena TRT antes de las elecciones del 24 de junio.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday said there was no possibility of a delay in the upcoming elections unless the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) 'becomes helpless.'  Justice Nisar made the comment during the hearing of a case regarding electoral amendments — filed by the Workers Party. 

All matters pertaining to elections must be completed on an urgent basis, the chief justice noted. Director-general of Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) noted that the code of conduct was formed with consensus from all political parties.

Opposition alliance agreed to intensify talks to prepare a roadmap for the post-election period in order to ensure “a strong parliamentary system,” main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and İYİ (Good) Party leaders stated after a meeting.

“The electorate is expecting us to build a strengthened parliamentary system, in which democracy is fully implemented and parliament is strong,” said İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener, after visiting CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the CHP headquarters on June 4.

Au moins seize personnes ont été blessées samedi à Bamako lors d'une "marche pacifique" de l'opposition, interdite par le pouvoir, qui a rassemblé plusieurs centaines de manifestants, à deux mois de l'élection présidentielle, a constaté un correspondant de l'AFP.

« Il y a effectivement plusieurs blessés, dont un policier blessé au front et au moins un homme politique », a déclaré à l’AFP un médecin de l’hôpital Gabriel Touré de Bamako.

Lebanon’s new government to be formed by PM-designate Saad Hariri will not “isolate” any political party, amid assurances that any obstacle threatening the formation process will be “overcome,” al-Joumhouria daily reported on Saturday.

Sources of President Michel Aoun said: “The new government will not isolate anyone,” noting that the “Lebanese Forces are not targeted at all,” and that their concerns have been addressed during a meeting between the President and LF chief Samir Geagea.

Sudan’s ruling party in S. Kordofan backs al-Bashir re-election in 2020

The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in South Kordofan state voiced its support to the re-election of President Omer al-Bashir for a new term in the election of 2020.

The decision was taken in the meeting of the NCP leadership in South Kordofan headed by the newly appointed governor Gen Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadal who is also the chairman of the ruling party in the troubled state.

"The meeting announced its support for the nomination of Marshal Omer al-Bashir for a new term in the elections of 2020," according to the official Sudan News Agency.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued the schedule for the 2018 general elections.

According to the schedule, returning officers through public notices will invite nominations from prospective candidates on June 1, while nomination papers will be filed from June 2 to 6.

The list of nominated candidates will be published on June 7. The last date for scrutiny of nomination papers is June 14, while June 19 will be the last date for filing of appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers.

Nasirul Mulk sworn in as caretaker PM

Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk on Friday took oath as the country’s interim prime minister.

The newly-appointed caretaker chief executive’s oath was administered by President Mamnoon Hussain at the President House. Following the ceremony, Justice Mulk was presented a guard of honour by the armed forces.

Speaking to the media after the oath-taking, the interim premier said free and fair polls were his priority.

The most important goal in the upcoming general election is to prevent Croat leader Dragan Covic from once again being a member of the tripartite Presidency, member of the Civic Alliance (GS) political council, Emir Suljagic, told N1.

Suljagic was a Bosniak Presidency member candidate in the 2014 general election, representing the Democratic Front (DF), who’se leader, Zeljko Komsic, is now running for the Croat Presidency member position.

The Presidency is composed of three members representing Bosniaks, Croats and Serbs.
