El equipo de campaña del exprimer ministro maliense Ibrahim Bubacar Keita ha asegurado que los primeros resultados de las elecciones presidenciales otorgan la victoria a su candidato por un amplio margen, según ha informado la agencia china de noticias Xinhua.

   Pese a que los resultados a pie de urna, publicados por la prensa local, otorgan la victoria a Keita, sin necesidad de una segunda vuelta, sus rivales se han mostrado convencidos de que sí habrá una segunda votación, según la agencia estatal china.

La jefa de la diplomacia europea, Catherine Ashton, se ha reunido en la noche del lunes con el depuesto presidente egipcio, Mohamed Morsi, informó un portavoz europeo. Ambos dirigentes discutieron "en profundidad" durante dos horas, indicó a través de Twitter Maja Kocijancic, portavoz de Ashton, sin detallar cuál fue el lugar del encuentro.

La primera vuelta de las elecciones presidenciales en Mali ha terminado en un ambiente de optimismo y sin que se hayan registrado incidentes de importancia.

Los colegios electorales abrieron sus puertas a las 8:00 hora local (la misma hora GMT) para acoger a los casi siete millones de malienses convocados a la urnas y las cerraron a las 18:00.

Tanto en Bamako como en el resto del país y especialmente en las provincias del norte, donde grupos islamistas radicales habían impuesto su ley hasta el pasado enero, la calma ha reinado.

Kuwait's minority Shia MPs have lost more than half of their seats in the second parliamentary election in less than a year, official results show.

Shia candidates won eight seats in the 50-member parliament, compared with a record 17 in the ballot in December.

Liberal and tribal groups have emerged the main winners. Voter turnout was an estimated 52.5%, which was higher than expected despite an opposition boycott.

The previous parliament was dissolved in December over a procedural flaw.

BEIRUT: Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad said Saturday the resistance group and its allies should be fully represented in the next Cabinet or the government will never form.

“We have agreed with our allies that either we all participate in the government or we are all out,” Raad, head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, said during an Iftar hosted by Hezbollah in the south.

Raad said that his party would not accept any other government make-up “in order to guarantee that no [political party] conspires against [Hezbollah].”

El dirigente político Mohamed Brahmi, ex secretario general del movimiento de izquierdas Echaab (Movimiento del Pueblo) fue asesinado este jueves a tiros frente a su casa, en la capital tunecina, informaron fuentes políticas.

El Ministerio de Interior tunecino ya ha confirmado el asesinato y ha asegurado que las fuerzas de seguridad están llevando a cabo las medidas necesarias.

The National Salvation Front (NSF) said millions would take to the streets in Friday demonstrations against terrorism and in support of the roadmap put in place for a constitution and elections.

Protests by supporters of former president Mohamed Morsi in the governorates of Qaliubiya, Mansoura and Damietta on Monday escalated to clashes, leaving at least two dead.

Pro-Morsi protesters were reportedly harassed by residents of the areas where protests were held, incidents which soon led to clashes. Tarek Al-Morsi, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) spokesman, denied that the harassers were local residents.

The Constitutional Court yesterday rejected a petition demanding to halt the general election over suspicions that the Amiri decree calling for polls is unconstitutional. Accordingly, the election will be held as initially decided on July 27. The petition was filed by lawyer Adel Abdulhadi who has argued that the formation of the current Kuwait Cabinet violates conditions required under the constitution, an argument that was not accepted by the Administrative Court about two weeks ago.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that leaders and officials from across the world, except for the United States and Israel, have been invited to Rohani’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for August 4, one day after his endorsement ceremony by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Around 105,000 members of the party are heading to the ballot box on Monday to select a new party leader, with the main contenders being Tirana mayor Lulzim Basha and transport minister Sokol Olldashi.

This is the first time in the party’s history that rank-and-file members vote directly for their chairman.

Berisha resigned as party boss following the defeat in the June 23 parliamentary elections, won by a landslide by the Socialists headed by former Tirana mayor Edi Rama.
